Othandweni
Children's Home
Othandweni is a children's home in Soweto that is a
refuge for babies and infants as well as children up
to the age of 18 years.
Thirty abandoned babies and abused children younger
than five are cared for at Othandweni. Many of these
children are infected with the HIV virus
or have AIDS and require constant attention.
The older children are grouped according to their ages
and live in cottages. |
|
There
are 12 children to each cottage, and although the
children are under the supervision of a child-care
worker, the cottages have their own kitchens so the
children can learn to cook and clean for themselves. |
